Imagine turquoise water lapping against a white sandy, palm tree filled beach; a party taking place beside the warm waters of the Caribbean. Now, let me introduce you to the perfect soundtrack to bring this island paradise to life…

Bomba Estéreo mixes traditional cumbia rhythms with electronic and dance music, creating tracks filled with a tropical vibe.

There are many exciting new acts influencing the ever-growing musical scene of Columbia. One of them is Bomba Estéreo, who released their fourth studio album ‘Amanecer’ in June this year. Formed in 2005 in the country’s capital, Bogotá, their style mixes traditional cumbia rhythms with electronic and dance music, creating tracks filled with a tropical vibe.

‘Fiesta’, a track taken from their latest album, has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards Record of the Year. In this spirit-warming single, singer and rapper Liliana Saumet’s voice perfectly complements tropical guitar riffs and carnival-infused beats.

Let’s now head south: picture yourself in Santiago, the Chilean capital, set against the breathtaking back-drop of the Andes mountain range. The perfect sound for this setting? The psychedelic and groovy tunes of Astro.

Formed in 2008 when vocalist and guitarrist Andrés Nusser met drummer Octavio Caviares whilst being enrolled in the same music college, the band has just released their new studio album entitled ‘Chicos de la Luz’. Packed with danceable, lighthearted songs and even more psychedelia, one should keep an ear out for these guys if looking for more cheerfully experimental music with origins in the southernmost parts of the American continent.

Our journey now takes us to Panama; the country that joins the North and South Americas, Panana boasts impressive sights such as the Panama Canal inserted amidst the lush tropical rainforest. Like a deep roar from the jungle, Señor Loop have taken over the alternative music scene of this country. ‘Vikorg’ is the name given to their latest production, produced in 2014 thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. It was mixed by producer Terry Brown, best known for his work with Rush and Jimi Hendrix.

These are just a few of the artists that permeate the bubbling musical scene of Latin America. Though the true Latin experience cannot be experienced through imagination alone, these unforgettable tunes provide an enticing flavour of what this vibrant region has to offer.
