The Mannered Waves proposes an understanding of deconstruction as a way of being towards and against a world defined by materiality and accumulation. Systematic rejection of blind consumerism and luxury paves the way to a poetic and gentle aesthetic, which offers access to grace and beauty in the midst of disorder.
For their story of resistance, photographers Leo D'Oriano and Diego Diez create a ludic, juvenile atmosphere, employing a dynamic of opposites as a site of creative freedom and expression: velour alternates with fabrics that imitate marble, metallic textures are balanced by translucent tulle fabrics, extreme close-ups oppose very long shots. This rather unmannered nature of the setting invites and simultaneously refuses taming, as it takes apart its own aesthetic order.
