This story seeks to explore the instinctive, necessary tendency to imagine better futures. Rooted in the acknowledgement of present generations as the creative force to steer the future, Future Folk presents the clash between the individual, carrier of vision and hope, and the urban landscape, heavy with past histories and memories. Undertones of pessimism and loss are countered with life-affirming optimism.
Inspired by the culture of the past five decades, photographer Charlotte O'Shea and stylist Nicoletta Cianci reference subcultures of the 1970s and 1980s, with a contemporary take on funk, soul, New Romantic, and punk styling. Revolutionary artists such as Prince, David Bowie, and Sly & the Family Stone are particularly important sources of inspiration, as they turned their careers into platforms for affirmation of a better, more equal, world.
This is a story about the importance of uniting cultures and communities, in the hope of building a future defined by optimism, joy, and beauty.
