For photographer Babette Pauthier and stylist Coline Peyrot, liberation comes from within. Bright Light is a portrayal of an inner sense of liberation, a tendency deeply human to escape the norm and want to see what lies beyond the boundaries we´re being given. This is often joined by notions of surprise and the release of pleasure – despite what might be found once a wall is taken down, the very act of tearing it down brings joy and pleasure.
The use of light and the exploration of various surfaces that meet the light takes the story into a zone where metaphor is placed against a literal reading, producing a sense of comfort and familiarity. Sheer, see-through, second-skin materials exposed to light at different intensities evoke the sharpness and high transparency of our world, placing human physicality against a more fluid, unsettled form of humanity.
