Awkward Monochromes is a visual exploration of the impact difficult outfits have on the body: bending it, reducing its mobility, even altering its materiality. Paola Vivas and Raul Castilla work with the inherent complications defining the relationship of the human body with clothing, highlighting the tension between unease and pleasure, inconvenience and joy, the strangeness of the garment and the naturalness of the skin.
Shot in soft tones against an unsophisticated environment, the series follows the shaping of the female body through design and styling, investigating the middle ground between bodily fragmentation and wholeness.
